SailGP—the Most Exciting Racing on Water—Returns to San Francisco Bay in 2025
SailGP, the most exciting racing on water, will return to the Bay Area for the San Francisco Sail Grand Prix, March 22-23, 2025.
SailGP is a global championship with national teams battling it out in identical high-tech, high-speed, 50-foot foiling catamarans at iconic venues around the world. Racing faster than the wind at speeds approaching 60 miles per hour, the sport is powered by nature—wind, sea, and sun—with a top prize of $7 million at stake over the season.
Event Information
SailGP’s close-to-shore stadium racing, with world-class, water’s edge excitement, and an apres-sail atmosphere is what makes it one of the world’s fastest-growing sports and entertainment properties.
Each grand prix is a two-day event made up of six total races that are 10-15 minutes in length. The first five races at each event include all of the teams, before the winner is determined in a final podium race between the top three performing teams. Teams representing 12 nations are expected to compete in San Francisco, including the United States.
Racing will take place in the heart of San Francisco Bay, with the Golden Gate Bridge serving as a stunning and dramatic backdrop. The official viewing area is once again located on the Marina Yacht Club Peninsula. Attracting 22,000 spectators in the first year, this ticketed area along the water’s edge will be the center of the festivities.
